Now I'm not completely uneducated, but my education is minimal, and really only applies to Scotch: I quite like smoky scotches like Talisker, Caol Ila, Laphroaig and Lagavulin, but the blended stuff like Johnny Walker Blue I don't really have an appreciation for.

My only knowledge of Japanese whisky is a dodgy evening at the Four Seasons Marunouchi shortly before the pandemic where I was indulged by some generous Chinese and Russian hotel guests, and a very understanding barman. I had no idea what I was doing, but I believe what I was being fed was not cheap.

On the published drinks list I see:

Suntory Whisky Hibiki
Ichiro's Malt CHICHIBU JAL Exclusive

So what am I looking for here? Hibiki, for example, covers a multitude of sins.
