One of my dubious distinctions is that I am a wine writer. So I can pretend to know wines. The ANA white sparkling wine is garbage. A vile liquid that has no redeeming virtues at all. The fact that they serve it in a paper cup on a short flight signals that they know it does not deserve a glass.
You might be amused to know that ANA has now downgraded its domestic sparkling wine even further. They now serve Veuve Du Vernay, which retails for JPY 1,000 to 1,500 for a full size bottle. Basically convenience store wine.
The chasm between ANA and JAL domestic premium cabin service widens. JAL domestic F still serves actual champagne, and they do it with glassware, not paper cups.
