That A330 J seat is really really marginal for anything more than a US domestic transcon length seat. And even at that, it isn't "all that." While I expect that they'll either eventually be reconfigured or decommissioned, I'd never pay more than a premium Y fare and then seriously consider if that were a mistake on a 10+ hour flight.
I have never flown on the HA A330, but I have redeemed several DE awards in J on their old B767… because it was better to fly that cabin for 55k miles to Europe than the other options. So I have no doubt I would survive the Hawaiian J seat if the price is right.
