Are you referring to the CRJ-550? There's a lot you can do when you take out 30% of the seats in an aircraft. But I don't foresee AC operating 54-seat CR9s anytime soon.
So the CRJ550 is based off the CRJ700, just limited in seats. It's kinda like the CRJ705's little sibling (I still call the 900s a 705 from time to time, old habits)
