There are many references to T-24, T-8 , T-2 with LMU prices quote for each. I’m assuming the posters are not using actual Eupgrades otherwise wouldn’t it be better for them to remain on the list earlier ?
There are quite a few reasons someone with status might buy an LMU, even though they might have the ability to request an eUp.
If one is #1 on the upgrade list with 6 seats showing available 2 hours before departure, that person is probably not going to buy an LMU. But someone who's 27th on the list for those 6 seats might want to take a reasonably priced (whatever they consider that to be) LMU.
There are also many people with lower levels of status who don't have enough eUps to upgrade all of their travel.
And if one is on a cheap fare with a high co-pay, an LMU might make more sense.
And there may be other reasons I haven't thought of here.
