Lots of snow already now in Niigata, which is where I'll be headed in less than 2 weeks.
Learned a new term today - JPCZ, or Japan sea Polar air mass Convergence Zone (日本海寒帯気団収束帯). Apparently cold air comes in from Siberia, gets lifted up in the Sea of Japan filled with moisture, and becomes powerful snow clouds. Based on Japanese news, it's the strongest JPCZ effect right now in 10 years.
