My impression is that many FlyerTalkers do things that a normal person would consider insane, for all sorts of reasons.
For example, I once flew
HKG-JFK-YVR-
DFW-ANC-DFW-ORD-LAX-LHR-
CAI-LHR-HEL
in paid J&F purely for the enjoyment (and the miles/status) whilst my partner at the time departed 4 days later and flew HKG-HEL to start our holiday.
Isn't that the essence of FlyerTalk?
