The wine list was the same for all four flights of this trip - on this first flight, I had a glass of the Australian sauvignon blanc.

Trolleys were used to lay the tables for dinner, something I haven't often experienced on QR. This set the tone for a rather disinterested crew experience on this flight.

The amuse bouche was marinated prawn which had a surprising horseradish flavour to it.

The starter of sesame seed tuna tataki with Waldorf salad was just OK.

I had pre-ordered the Lobster Thermidor, which was also one of the regular menu choices. This dish lived up to expectations in being full of flavour.

After I'd finished my main course, the crew started clearing my table without asking whether I'd like a dessert. They seemed surprised when I requested one, and I was initially told there were none left - despite me never having been asked whether I'd like a dessert at the start of the flight when menu orders were taken. In the end, the crew managed to magically find a dark chocolate praline mousse, which was worth the wait, although the crème Anglaise had a slightly odd taste to it.

With an 02:40 departure time, it was straight to sleep waking only for breakfast, which commenced with my go-to QR breakfast starter of Greek yogurt with passion fruit compote and toasted quinoa granola, accompanied by a mango and strawberry smoothie.

The Qatari style egg shakshuka was bursting with flavour, although was somewhat greasy.

A fairly decent seasonal fresh fruit plate concluded breakfast.

Another brutal flight departure time of 01:40 meant it was straight to breakfast when I woke on this sector. I started with a guava juice and what was described on the menu as Greek yogurt with mango compote and toasted granola, but appeared to just be the yogurt and granola elements with some jam mixed into the yogurt. Perhaps the mango compote had run out...

Keen to try one of the Korean options from the late night dining menu, I'd reserved the beef tenderloin bulgogi for my breakfast main course when the crew had taken menu orders before departure. This was a great choice, being a really well put together dish.

A very sad-looking seasonal fresh fruit plate concluded the meal.

A last minute aircraft swap to a non-Qsuite 777 was unwelcome, as was the lukewarm welcome from the crew upon boarding (although they did thaw slightly during the flight). Many passengers were unhappy with the aircraft swap (and associated loss of private single seating), but the crew didn't help matters by trying to claim that the old 2-2-2 product had 'more space' and was 'more comfortable'.

I cannot recall what the amuse bouche that commenced lunch was.

My starter was the dill marinated tiger prawn and paprika scallop, which whilst colourful, wasn't particularly to my taste.

My main course on the other hand was the outstanding Qatari spiced barramundi with raita, which was without question my favourite QR dish of the trip. The Gosset champagne was a great pairing.

Lunch concluded with the superb chocolate brownie with nuts and hot fudge sauce, accompanied by a glass of the dessert wine.
