FYI: Platinum member via credit card - Father in hospital. Kimpton Monaco DC (repeat guest at property) permitted (IHG PREMIER Free Night Certificate plus points) cancel without penalty while within no cancel period. Once cancelled, since the Free Night certificate had a couple of days to run, contacted IHG Customer Service and they made 1 time exception of 25K points for unused certificate.

Quite nice of them, IMHO.

Postscript - IHG did remove the unused certificate from the account, and upon cancellation by Kimpton, as noted above, the certificate (that was subsequently removed by IHG) and the additional points I used to secure the original reservation were placed back into the account.
