I know lots of top tier (Delta 360, United GS, etc) frequent fliers who couldn't begin to tell you what a fare class is. It's mostly appreciated by the mileage geeks who want to maximize benefits/earnings...and that generally isn't a profitable game for airlines, so not entirely sure why it "should" be simpler...
not talking about this challenge, miles you receive in general are based on that fare class, that’s why I think it should always be obvious to find it, bit like you buy a pack of milk with a random discount, but wont tell you how nuch! I am with you, I can understand why airlines don’t want you to know, that’s also why lot of airlines move to money based model ( xx miles per USD spent)
