I am amazed they managed to get all of this into a $30 device, but I'm presuming it's a loss-leader for their service, and thus likely hard-coded to not work with any other SIMs/mobile providers/etc.
They’re probably not losing money on it, but also probably not making much either; it sounds like it is a non-emarker 65W USB-C cable (<$10 now), probably with USB 2.0’s 480Mbps speeds, with a MiFi router sans battery spliced in to draw power from the connected host or charger (generics with USB A easily found on Amazon between $15-40).
Looks like it is built to only use GlocalMe; SIM probably either hardwired onto the board or eSIM changes locked out via firmware.
Interesting concept, though yes, seems you will be locked into using GlocalMe… (and I see an against-spec USB-C female to USB A male passive adapter :-/ )
