This summer, one of my flights were delayed 30 min becasuse of cabin baggage. Even if you only add 10 to 15 min for baggage delays per flight, by the end of the day, your evening flight will be delayed over 1 hour.
Or a bunch of other flights get delayed while they wait for late connections, or crew times out, or people miss connections and AC is on the hook for hotels, or...
I think delays cost the airline a lot more than we think.

I've seen Y pax put their bags in J bins before J has boarded full.
I've seen crew announce "take any open space in the bin" before J has boarded full.
I recently had to put my bag above row 20 (on a 2-row J cabin) by the time I boarded, which wasn't even that late.
A long time ago on an E90 my bag had to go above literally the last row while I was seated in row 1.
I want to board when I feel like it, and find bin space within a row or two of my seat.
