Hello AA Gurus,

So here's a really frustrating situation - I've got 175K and 250K LP awards to burn, and want to gift my wife Gold Status for next year. The gift of Gold Status to her expires March 31 2026.

My wife is currently Gold, but is not gonna earn enough LP's to re-qualify. Terms and Conditions say that if the person being gifted is currently Gold, they cannot be gifted until their status expiration date (March 31 2025) or the day after. But the redeem by date on the award is Jan 3 2025! So it's impossible to gift her the status because the award will be expired by March 31, more than 2 months later.

I had a conversation with AAdvantage customer support about this, who said the redeem by date depends on when you earned the LP award. Not true - I earned the 250K award a couple of months after the 175k award - and the 250K Gold Gifting award has the same redeem by date of Jan 3 2025! I tried to impress upon him that this gift therefore doesn't work for anyone who currently carries the same status, even though T&C clearly states you can, but with the March 31 rule. Fell on deaf ears.

Has anyone else been in this situation? Any suggestions? I mean I guess I could HUACA but I feel like I'm gonna get the same runaround.
