It probably depends on your flight patterns as to how valuable Gold is. I've had reasonably good success with Gold this year - ~20% upgrades to FC and ~75% upgrades to Comfort Plus.

OP - do you have the Delta credit cards? Each Plat or Reserve provides a $2500 starter MQD boost.
