Hasn't AC's basic offering been off-market in allowing people to bring a full-sized carry-on? I thought a key feature of all the other airlines' basic fares was the fact that you only got a personal item. I'm not sure it's sinking to the bottom so much as finally aligning the product to what the market expects of it.
It’s sinking to the bottom inasmuch as the objective is not to make the product better but to make it just as bad as the competition.
