One used to be able to select flights for check-in but the new screen doesn't allow this now. I would suggest just leaving it a few hours, it may get fixed, where "it" can be a long list of problems.
Just to close this part of the thread out -- I was never able to checkin online. When I checked in at the airport, the agent couldn't tell me why I couldn't check in online, but she said it happens all the time (no surprise).
