I think you are right to challenge the point of this. They have always done this, going back decades, and as far as I can tell they write all the names and flight details down and several months later they shred the paperwork. They also do that with luggage storage in LHR, but that's more understandable. They don't do this in SIN or the smaller out-stations with showers. I can think of one vaguely historic reason for it, namely when HAL used to offer paid-for shower options, and so it's possible that it's a requirement from the landlord. Also for airside showers it's possible they would need to manage people with onward connections and thus give priority to some passengers, for which a list of names and flights would be useful. But if they just stopped doing it then nothing would happen.
Well if you don't know the reason then it must be pointless! I love a bit of data analysis myself, but the purpose of seat number really stumped me!
