stayed here recently and thought it was OK.
the whole Aventine complex seems to be suffering from the downturn in commercial real estate as there's not much else in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, and it's not a walkable area.
however the property's pool / tennis courts / ping pong tables seemed to be maintained well, and they had fire pits / smores kits.
The buffet is pretty bare-bones but service from the staff was very friendly and efficient which I appreciated.
The lobby area and the room interiors seem fine however the hallways are beat up and need a renovation. There's also absolutely no sound proofing between the hallways and the rooms, and it gets rowdy on the weekends even with "quiet time" hours posted clearly with signage.
IMO it's worth a Category 4 mainly for the friendly breakfast and the decent location within La Jolla.
