We have come to the same conclusion as well.
The point of being in the same aisle is not to be overlooked. If one needs help with bags in the overhead bins it’s much easier being right there in the same aisle to help rather than having to walk up or down the cabin, cross over and then walk back to help.
In some configurations that could be a long-ish way!
