But those routes are already operated by United’s partner Lufthansa and Swiss. Unless they are planning on re-using the airplanes for different routes, why would you want to duplicate. I think competing against SkyTeam and adding Paris or Amsterdam could be more interesting. Or going against OneWorld and doing Madrid. Italy would be another possibility - Lufthansa acquiring ITA would add FCO to the Star Alliance network and United could do something like MXP?
