I've successfully paid cash for 2 passengers and received in app offers for a previously flown SFO-DFW. I am unsure if 4 passengers in a single PNR will make it difficult to receive in app upgrade offers.

I frequently fly LAX/MIA with my family of 5 on one PNR and almost always get upgrade offers both in the app and on the web site. I'll usually bite at <$300/person, particularly westbound, unless we're on a widebody with confirmed PE seats.
