Actually the payment was made in the credit card's currency ... AA charged in Euro and card's currency is Euro too. So no currency conversion at all.
Unluckily the credit card issuing bank is charging this foreign transaction fee because AA is charging the fare of the flights, which they sell in Europe, in TEXAS.
