Best advise: be proactive by yourself.
I never trust anything any GA or FA says. I immediately start looking for alternative flights and check FlightAware for flight info. I've noticed on several occasions, where the GA has announced 30-45 min delays which turned into hours, that FlightAware more accurately predicted the actual delay.
