Most probably LOT will check your luggage to ATH (I see no reason why not). 4 hours in Athens is more than enough for your self-connection although I agree that I don't know how much of a hassle it is to pass through security for a flight to TLV: last time I flew to there was in 1964 (yes, no typo ), no security check what so ever back then.
