Long haul economy class food - worse now than I remember
Took my first KL long haul economy class (economy comfort) flight yesterday (AMS-KUL) since 2018 - the food given now was very little and was basically inedible and I don't remember thinking this from before the pandemic, except once having a hamburger on an AMS-LIM J flight which was revolting.
Mostly avoided the food in my 6hr Crown Longe 52 layover (didn't want to go to the city) as the hot food was luke warm/cold and bread stuffs were dry.
On board the choice was pasta or chicken, opted for chicken (rice, green beans, chicken cubes and some hard 'things' eg stalk ends, gristle IDK), which came with a cold igneous bread roll and packet of cheese (no butter) and a container sectioned for pink paste, 2 red balls and 4 green balls. No idea if it was starter or dessert (eg separate salad and cake/mousse) and it tasted foul whatever it was. Nothing else given.
For 'breakfast', having seen/and could smell the measly wrapped pastry and a tub of fruit that the lady next to me got I just thought "no thank you". Is that all KLM gives at the end of one of their longest flights? Thankfully, I can eat in the MH lounge before my return.
KL really don't put any thought, effort, cost into their catering. Compared to AF the only advantages KL has (for me) is 1) their route network of UK regionals (SOU for me) and SE Asia, 2) economy comfort seats, 3) AMS transits are super easy. If AF had 1 and 2 the same as KL then I'd avoid KL fully for long haul.
Rant over. Safe travels.
