What happened to hotels in Cape Town...a year has gone by without a post? We are going mid 2025. We could use some suggestions.
We are going on a cruise. It leaves from Cape Town. We will arrive at the airport on May 31 before lunch. WE need:
1. Transport to a hotel from AP
2. Hotel near a Vivitar tours pick up point (there are several) ...two full days of touring, perhaps some of two half days. No nights (generally early diners)
3. Transport to an unknown hotel that Regent 7 Seas will be using on June 3 (from there we are on their schedule, one night, breakfast, transport to the port (will post hotel when I find out)
We need to pick a hotel for 3 nights. We have points for HIE (Platinum), but very dated comments herein make that somewhat questionable. We don't have a budget, but the fact we looked at HIE, might suggest one. The fact that we are crusing on Regent 7 Seas would suggest that amount could be flexible. It is winter, so prices are lower. With only 3 nights, one might suggest keeping the lodging under $200/nt., perhaps with breakfast. Would be nice if there was included transport to hotel (from AP). Key is not having to walk far to meet tour pickup. We survived JOBURG, but 20-foot fences do make one wonder. Spent 5 minutes at the lower floor flea market before fleeing the mall. We are open to where we stay locationally. .Liked the sound of Atlantic View Botique Hotel (camps beach, but more a veg out that a tour hub), Often stay at Hyatt Place, Marriotts with breakfast. Choice when there is no other. From reading this Thread, it appears that we might do well by the harbor.
We have visited 3 countries in Africa before, and done 15 safaris. This will be our first trip to Cape Town. Table Mountain is on top of our list (I know it is weather dependent), other things of interest would be the wineries (live in California. so been to a hundred). OR Gardens (a thing we often do all over the world but is getting harder). Or Penguins. (will have been to Antarctic twice, along with lots of zoos and aquariums). Would also consider Hop on, Hop off for a general tour. Other?
We are 80, and I walk with a cane. Wife walks with expensive camera, otherwise no visible valuables. She carries a "bag purse". We can eliminate her bag, if I do a backpack. Suggestions.
