Arrow End-of-year thoughts - 2024

The calendar says we've entered December and it's that time of year. No, I'm not talking about gifts, Christmas tree, glöggi or lutfisk (but we all look forward to that, don't we )

I am talking about the time with "Flight-year in review", a thread I am sure soon will pop-up in Finnair forum and quickly get filled with everyone's stats. I personally look forward to that tradition a little bit extra this year as I think it will be something special. So many members have tried so many new airlines, programs and destinations.
We've heard about Auckland-bounces. We've heard about flights taken after status card was matched to another (and another and another..)

My secret wish this season is we will not just see everyone's cool stats but also hear some amazing stories. Because I know all of you are collecting memories alongside those miles.

Another thought as the year enters the last segment and goes for the final sprint is something completely different.

Last year, Finnair forum was on the top-15 list of forums generating most traffic on Flyertalk. To appreciate just how big that is, take a moment and wrap your head around Finnair forum having more readers than say the Lufthansa group.

It is a testament to everyone here. Those who cares for newcomers. Those who update wikis. Those who post breaking news, knowledge, insights. Those who rant, joke, challenge or agree. And, easily forgotten, those who regularly come here to read and keep up with all frequent flyer things Finnair. Thank you all!

Finnair forum stands out, with humour and warmth, knowledge and opinion, a community feel with a lot of genuine and original characters.

Then there is the matter of the 2024 stats...
As it stands right now, we fell short of keeping our spot on the top-15. CX had a comeback year, and for some reason Lufthansa group was suddenly something people wanted to discuss They both officially entered top-15 this year, and we're out in the cold.

It isn't a competition. But... Wouldn't it be nice with a comeback?

This is an call to every one to do some introspection. Can we get better at welcoming newcomers? Having them survive their first steps on a forum filled with knowledge, experience and opinion?
Can we get more hot stuff on here? I know many are tied in to the industry, gets early insights or have early hands-on experiences. Maybe even some things could be posted here instead of in closed communities?
Can we get more right, up-to-date, clearer, friendlier, enticing?

No one can do everything, but if you feel you can add something to the forum, don't hesitate.

Some more numbers:
Top-poster on Finnair forum have done 730 posts so far this year. That's 730 times giving advice, cheers or contributing to the mood of the forum. Amazing!

But it is not just about posting volume. There are 42 members posting at least once a week. Regularly coming back and participating, adding to the forum life with a multitude of voices. Every month around 75 threads get updated.
These might sound like small numbers, but that is what results in a huge number of page views, putting us on par with the Amex thread.

It would be interesting to see where we stand on these stats by end of 2025. Do we have more members posting at least once a week? And do we post, not just more but also better in that it invites more people to discuss the things we love?
