Precheck lines are often longer than the standard lines when we fly, but a couple of points on that. First, even though the standard lines may be shorter, they aren't inherently faster as people have to take off their shoes, take large electronics out of their bags, etc. Second, even in those cases where standard lines are both shorter and faster than precheck lines, I'll still use precheck as I don't want to have to take off my shoes or remove my laptop from the bag; these points are major conveniences when flying for me.
