This is a fantastic property that did not disappoint. First of all, it is not centrally located for many sights in the area such as the Ashio Copper Mine, Toshogu Shrine, and Oya Quarry. I rented a car and got a bit tired of driving up and down the switchbacks every day, but there are worse problems to be had.
It was also necessary to pre-book the Japanese Restaurant if you'd care to eat there. I tried booking a week out and many times/food options were already taken. I tried the kaiseki, sushi, and teppanyaki options and they were all outstanding. No language issues and each dish was described to me. For breakfast, I was advised to make a reservation as well. Only a Western or Japanese set menu was offered - I guess if you wanted a la carte you'd have to order room service? Either way, food quality was extremely high and I loved how flavorful all the fruits and vegetables were.
The bar has an excellent selection of Japanese whiskies but be prepared to pay one to two nights lodging for some of the rarer selections. Still, I was grateful to try some samples that I could not find elsewhere.
I have zero complaints about the property, and would happily stay here again.
