I've had bags taken from me while waiting in the lounge in MIA. It wasn't even theft, someone else took my bag and left theirs. (AA, not DL).
And three weeks later, the same thing in LAX.

I got my bag back both times same day, but now I'm at the carousel ASAP - taking the wrong bag happens a lot. (I did it twice myself in 45 years of flying).

If you decide to risk it, and get to the carousel only to see one bag that isn't yours, call the number on the bag tag. (even if it really doesn't look like your bag to you). They probably have your bag. When you call them, they will deny having your bag and say their bag is in the trunk. They will change their tune once you say "how do you think I got your phone number if not from your luggage which I'm next to at the moment).
