If the aim is to get as close to Vietnam as possible, Malaysia is closer than Singapore is!

To make life easier for your parents would also suggest looking at QR to SGN to avoid having to go through Singapore - you won’t be able to use the companion voucher but it’s only 300k avios for two vs 220k I think on BA with the voucher.
