Hotel Indigo Madrid - Gran Via
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked two separate reservations and asked to have them linked in the notes. I used a Chase Free Night, which booked into a Standard room, so I booked a Standard (paid) for night 2. Ahead of time in the app, I could see that my free night had booked into a King Premium and the paid night was a Queen Inside View. I emailed to ask for the same room for both nights and was booked into a Queen Premium for the duration. At check-in I asked for a King, but he wasn't able to find King Premium availability for both nights and said that we'd enjoy the Queen Premium more than a King Standard, so we stuck with the Queen.
How are the rooms?
Fine - fairly cosy, but big enough for us both to have our large suitcases open on the floor and still have room to walk around. There was a desk with chair, a wardrobe, and one sitting chair. The bathroom was a decent size (single sink), and a very poorly placed doorstop opposite the toilet - just asking for a stubbed toe. It was a noisy area, but the room was quiet.
How is the exec. lounge?
n/a
What was good and what was bad?
The room was clean and nice enough and not too tight for a hotel in Europe, especially the bathroom. The breakfast was fine, but not special. Hot items were available a la carte, but they weren't special either. Coffee drinks were via a machine - though it did note "natural" milk, so I think it used real, not powdered milk. It made good foam for a machine. You could fill up nicely, and it was certainly better than a US HIX and the like. But it didn't feel special like other hotels on our trip.
Of course I chose the breakfast as my diamond amenity, but the check-in clerk also gave me the free drinks coupon. He suggested we take the drinks at the rooftop bar rather than the one on the lobby level. We did so, and I asked our server what drinks were included - he said soft drinks, beer and wine. Then he asked my level and when I said diamond, he said that diamonds could have any drink on the menu. This allowed us the €14 cocktails rather than the €5 wine. There was also a bar menu available - we ordered a few tapas, which were fine. The rooftop pool was closed for the season.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I was limited in my choice of hotels to ones where I could redeem my Chase free night. The hotel was fine, but if I hadn't had that limitation, I might have tried somewhere else. I don't have a problem with the hotel, and would return, but my preference would be to try another hotel first.
