Extra luggage with AA and United Airlines ?

I am writing to inquire about the luggage allowance associated with my booking. Currently, my reservation does not permit me to add an extra piece of luggage. While I booked my flights through Qantas, I will be traveling exclusively with United Airlines and American Airlines on my return to Singapore.

Could you please provide me with information regarding the potential costs I may incur for an additional luggage at the airport? Moreover, will I be required to pay for the second piece of luggage at each airport stop along my journey?

I attempted to manage my booking through both United Airlines and American Airlines for my August flights, but I was unable to add extra luggage online. The system only indicated the basic allowance and suggested that I pay at the airport. I have been informed that in-person charges at the airport could reach several hundred dollars for an additional luggage of the same size.

I would greatly appreciate it if you could clarify the pricing for the additional luggage or inform me if it is possible that I will not be allowed to take my second piece with me. This is particularly important to understand, as I do not want to encounter issues while traveling, especially during connecting flights in another country.

For reference, all our bookings, including my wife's, indicate an allowance of one piece of luggage per person along with one carry-on bag. In our previous experience flying to Canada in 2020 first time traveller, we managed to bring two pieces of luggage each without any issues. However, this will be our first experience with American Airlines and United Airlines, so I want to ensure everything is in order.

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to your prompt response.

Best regards,
