This is how I approach international travel now. I just want the "bestest for the cheapest", so I fly on off-brand carriers on occasion (e.g. ZIPAIR from LAX-NRT) and have been satisfied with the product, but I've also found bargains on the majors e.g. DL1 rt, ATL-HND for just over 5K. Domestically, I've even flown Spirit in the "Big Front Seat" and have been satisfied, especially since I'm paying only less than half of what the majors charge.
