You need to contact VA to get seats on VA tickets. I have used their contact form on the website for that. The computer would assign you 2 seats together, but as pointed out, all seats were taken.
It was not possible to select seats on VA’s website. It advised me to phone their Australia number. This I should have done, but I just assumed the computer would assign us 2 seats together. So this is a lesson for me. 😳
