Having used gift cards for years, one challenge is the limit of 1 card must cover 100% of Aeropoint reward flight or only 1 card plus another payment must cover 100% of the cost of a revenue flight ticket. I have a spreadsheet I have to track all the small balances left and picking them off when I book a flight. Personally I would rather have a single $2000 Gift Card than 4 X $500 cards. But I will buy 4 none the less, saving money is always a win.
