You see how that’s arguably quite hypocritical and there’s no difference in how ‘correct’ those two things are, though, right? You are no more entitled to the seat next you in Y than a CE passenger is to the other seat in the set - BA’s policy is for TS to apply to both situations and therefore either both are ‘blocked’ or both should be open to any passenger to override.
To keep the DYKWIA element alive here, I do see a difference, if not in the 'theoretical seating' hierarchy (which quite frankly I never count on anyway and, in any event, it appears the CC aren't given visibility of any blocks either, so not sure what value it brings raising it with the crew.)

It's one thing to be irked when B is free in Y (exit row or otherwise) and someone nabs it - there's a decent impact on my personal space and comfort. Even then though, if it's a 75 min hop to somewhere in Europe, I'm not normally the type to kick up a stink, but don't feel it would be totally DYKWIA if someone did.

It's another to be irked when 1B is already blocked, and someone shuffles into 1C. Realistically the only inconvenience is if I need to use the loo - which on most short-hauls isn't going to be more than once and is hardly what I'd call a hindrance...

CE could be empty or packed to the rafters and there will be zero impact on my leg, arm or shoulder room in Row 1. Unless my new rowmate is giving off heinous BO/doing something outrageous, I really can't see any circumstances where I'd think highly enough of myself to demand they return from whence they came so that I can have the entire row for my personal 'comfort' on a <4 hour flight...
