Sharing the below from a hotel rep's response to a recent TripAdvisor review:

"We have indeed embarked on an overall and holistic renovation and refurbishment period with the lobby and swimming pools currently closed. Next year, we will see one entire guest wing with 112 guest rooms into renovation and we are all really looking forward to a grand new experience. All this work is being done, whilst the unique Omani style of decoration will be preserved to ensure, our landmark will fascinate guests also in the future."

Based on the latest reviews, the hotel is in a particularly sorry state with the closed pool and lobby, dated rooms, dying landscaping, scaffolding on the main wing and general noise from renovation/construction. I can't rationalize why the owners wouldn't just shut the place down to knock the renovations out in one go rather than lumber along in this state at the detriment of their reputation and the guest experience, but alas...
