What do you think of the Langham Huntington? The one bedroom suite looks attractive. Anything better?
I haven't been in the rooms in years, but the Langham is very nice and well located. Staying in Pasadena, you're quite close to the best Chinese restaurants in the country. If you enjoy theater, the Pasadena Playhouse does some great productions. The gardens at the Huntington are very much worthwhile and I also enjoy the main library. Sometimes they have great exhibits there.

You're 100% correct about the traffic to Joshua Tree being much less in the morning. In fact, if you're leaving from Pasadena, you've cut out the traffic you would otherwise hit leaving LA. Least amount of traffic will be 6:30 or 7am, if you're early risers. Otherwise, leaving anytime before noon should be fine.
