The other main large-scale Buddha attraction in HK is the Ten thousand Buddha monastery in Shatin.

For the taxi, if the meter showed $291 without the addition of any toll charges then $300 was a decent price because the meter fare would have had an additional $50 in tunnel tolls. The MTR would have got you to Tung Chung for $28 (or $24.3 on an Octopus card).
Ah, I see. My bad. The driver did try to extort me a bit. When I asked how much he said 400 to 500; same with a driver at the top of Victoria Peak. I said too expensive and walked away. After a minute or so he got out and asked in fairly poor English “my budget.” I took photos of all his personal information during the ride in case I felt I was truly scammed.

The one thing I’m disappointed in myself about is not having an English to Cantonese translator app. While it’s not perfect, Google Translate has served me well. I was a bit shocked there wasn’t a Cantonese option; only two “Chinese” ones, simplified and traditional. Was one of those Cantonese?

I can’t use the ChatGPT app, which is generally better for translation, because my iPhone is too old and it requires the most recent IOS. Doesn’t work for me in a mobile web browser either; only Desktop at home.
