EWR-HNL non stop is longer than any “real” EWR-Europe flight (except ATH) yet its catered to even less horrible domestic catering. Not even small water bottles for FC pax, no hot ffs options in Y for the 10hr marathon to HNL, just cold Bistro options. Even short dom flts have limited hot food for purchase options. Never made sense to me.
Beyond the awful food options, unless you're flying in FC, it makes a lot of sense to have a layover in someplace like SFO so that you can walk around and get out of a cramped seat/cabin for a brief time.
