I avoid domestic red-eye flights whenever possible. My most recent non-transoceanic red-eye flight was from ANC to LAX, where there were no daytime options on AA. In the past, I had taken red-eye flights from LAX to BNA, CLE, MEX, GDL and SAT; it's been decades since I was on a red-eye from LAX to JFK. All those were way too short - 4:30 flying time at the most - to get meaningful or quality sleep, which seriously impacted my ability to function after arriving at my destination.
