P.S.For these who are not aware - you can not on portal buy PE on internaltional flight and then Economy on domestic flight on a single ticket. Engine does not allow to do it. Most likely an agent would be able if you call but directly you can't.
Usually can get around that with a mutlicity booking.

Doubtful as UA regularity does this itself
This ability to check thru on separate tickets (within the the alliance) is a relatively common policy.
Suspect in this case it was an inexperience agent.
