It is definitely married segments. I booked JL J SFO-SGN all in J earlier for next March. The SFO-TYO was not available on it's own.
AS doesn't permit holding an Award. You need to have the requisite miles in your account to book the award.

Thanks. Would you feel comfortable going ahead and transferring and booking online? Will the agent stay on the phone for the transfer? I'll have to transfer to HA then to AS. On he off chance it doesn't go through, I can use half the points to book a Y ticket KIX-LAX and maybe the rest to get home. And one last question....Does AS release PE availability? I'm not seeing much and never see it on the KIX-LAX route.
