I have yet to visit the Brunfels (stayed there when it was an underwhelming Hilton but not since they renovated and reflagged). I find the me and all Mainz is sometimes a bit overpriced for what it offers. Perhaps the Brunfels is the answer. Better location than the HR. The HR's Regency club is nothing to write home about so I don't mind the idea of a Hyatt without a club lounge.
But I guess all Hyatts in the area will have to get better as inter-Hyatt competition is really picking up. me and all, Brunfels, and soon an Unbound in Frankfurt near the airport. Finally, the HH Frankfurt Goetheplatz will likely open soon (web site is already up). It has an awesome location at the Rossmarkt (that's the name of the square, literally "horse market"; it's close to the main shopping and dining area, the financial district, and to the JW Marriott).
Personal standards may vary and the Mainz HR admittedly is not brand new - but I stayed in much worse and less well maintained properties affiliated with various (other) respectable chains. Even within the Hyatt universe I‘d consider this one as above average.
