In case it wasn't obvious in my last post, Guangzhou is a popular point of origin for people who want to save money on CX flights to Europe, North America, and Oceania. The cheapest fares often limit you to a maximum of 24 hours in HK, but typically an extra ~Y500 is sufficient to include a stopover of a week or two.
