al-meer says:
Expanding on its relationship with IAG, El-Meer said: “When it comes to IAG, we realised in the last few months that there is more synergy in working with IAG, and there are way more opportunities.
“For example, when you go to ground handlers it is better to go as IAG and Qatar Airways to negotiate and get better prices than go as Qatar Airways only. This is how we will we invest in the relationship between us and those companies.”
Secondly, Al Meer said on Bloomberg during farnborough that their order with Boeing and airbus has been delayed into Q1-25 because they changed the requirements, he says the new requirement is the first time something like this is being done in the industry, so the manufacturers need to reassess their offers.
this is my speculation, please don’t take this anything other than speculation.
but this is what I think is happening
so it will be a large order for QR and IAG of which both can draw down which aircraft each want at a later date this way the price is a lot lower per air frame because it’s a larger order.
that’s just me anyway
I ignore the workings at IAG level, which is where the purchasing is ultimately made, but at BA level the relationship with QR is quite hard. I've seen it across different directorates, getting QR to coordinate, or sometimes even care, requires a lot of patience. The experience during the Alex Cruz era, when QR provided crews to break the MF strike, was really bad. As I said, I ignore how IAG and QR work together, but at BA level I'd see a joint purchase with AA to be more likely.

Frankly, I don't think BA would buy a used 350 that came from the Gulf. The experience of the G-GATx series was bad enough, and planes that worked extensively in the Gulf tend to live less than others.

Someone has actually let the cat out of the back (which happened in another transportation business recently) and BA is gearing up for an A350 add on order ….
It's a re-issue of an older job advert, nothing else to it. BA opened up several rounds of hiring in Engineering to cover the new entry programme which, at the beginning of the year, had about 3 or so A350s and half a dozen 787s. The 350s were delivered on time, the 787s - as it's Boeing SOP - didn't. The advert has been re-issued and the system allows you to 're-heat' a previously-opened campaign.
