I read this last night and I'm still finding it a bit odd. I too prefer Istanbul, but I think Athens is great too, really good food, and much easier to get around than IST. I don't think you need to be history nerd to enjoy Athens, you could be a democracy nerd, a physician nerd, a philosophy nerd, an Olympic nerd, an exegesis nerd, a vending machine nerd, a central heating nerd, an alarm clock nerd - quite a few things have come out of Athens over the years. What did you not like?
