Holiday Inn Express Springdale Zion Natl Park Area
What is your Priority Club status?
Diamond
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Maybe.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 1 King Standard. Received an email on day of check-in saying the room was upgraded, and front desk mentioned that our room was upgraded to one facing the mountains. The view was certainly a lot nicer than the parking lot, but with half the rooms having this view, I don't think this counts as an upgrade. Our assigned room was right next to the elevator (despite my preference being away from elevator) and we could hear the elevator door closing through the wall. We were assigned to another room that had 2 queens (which was our preference), but the second room had a strong moldy smell from the AC so we asked for another room. We were eventually assigned to what the front desk said was the last standard room available, a 2 Queen Standard room facing the parking lot.
How are the rooms?
Rooms were dated and quite dark. The carpet was somewhat dusty, but rest of the room was quite clean. There were left over food in the fridge and the fridge had a fishy/rotten smell. When I mentioned this to the front desk, I was told that was the last standard room.
The housekeeping issues were quite surprising, because on Google Maps/Tripadvisor many reviews mentioned how clean and well-kept this HIX is.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
The good:
- Excellent location
- Lodge style design (other big chains in Springdale also have similar designs)
- Great breakfast (rotating meat/egg dishes), and the breakfast lady was super friendly and energetic
The bad:
- No upgrade for elite even with suites being available
- Dark room, moldy/loud AC
The ugly:
- Bad housekeeping (leftover food in the fridge, dirty carpet)
- Front desk forcing us to stay in a room that had leftover in the fridge
- Wi-Fi is not encrypted and very slow (< 5 Mbps)
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Originally we planned to stay 4 nights but ended up only using 3. But even without the 4th night free, the point rate was quite decent comparing to cash rate or similar Marriott/Hilton properties. I don't think I will have opportunity to revisit Zion in the next few years, but I would recommend this property for others visiting Zion and wish them better luck with housekeeping than us.
