1) When can you cancel a no annual fee card that you got a SUB for? Is the 12 months based on the 1st transaction date or is it based on closing of the 1st statement date? Mostly in reference to clawing back of points
2) We will be closing my wife's amex plat that we've had for 3 years (got retention offer May 2023 and kept it), and the annual fee will post today. Will amex flag the account if we use the December uber credit then cancel (after paying the balance due), or is it better to just cancel and not use the credit? It's just $20 and we've more than made $ on this card, so not too concerned about losing $20, but if its fine to get the $20 before cancelling, then will do that (may as well).
3) I'm in pop-up jail for the amex plat (I've tried various 150K and 175K offers, and probably applied 4-5 times in the past 60 days, waiting at least a couple weeks in between apps), and wondering if this could be because I'm an AU on my wife's plat (so we can transfer points from her to my mileage accounts). I know nobody really knows pop-up jail but just curious if anyone has datapoints? I also have the amex gold and when logged in to my account, my only offer for the plat is to upgrade that card to plat and get 50K points, which isn't all that great.
1. It's 365 days from the day you opened that card. So to be safe, wait at least 366 days. If it's a card with no AF why are you closing it? Do you need the slot for another credit card? Otherwise, I wouldn't close it until I do.
2. There is no problem to wait until after the $20 is deposited into your uber cash account on 12/1. You have 30 days from the day the AF posts to cancel for a refund and you may continue to use all the cards and benefits as usual until you do that.
3. Being an AU on your wife's plat is definitely not what's putting you in pop up jail and barring you from receiving a SUB of your own on a Plat. I'm not sure what is, but that's definitely not a factor.
